The Murray Files

Discussing Andy Murray's quest for a grand slam title.

Top seeds continue to fall.

Cilic and Davydenko exited the tournament in the 2nd round.  Federer managed somehow to play through the windy conditions and keep his court time down to just another 3-sets.

What is the point?

The point is quite a few seeds are out of the tournament, which means we could very quickly arrive at a semi-finals situation where it’s Murray v Nadal and Federer v Djokovic, unless an unseeded player can make a name for himself at this years US Open.

However, danger is still present for the top-four players.

Soderling, the 5th seed, smashed Taylor Dent off court in roughly 90 minutes and he seems to be a bit of a bogey matchup for Federer.  They are on course for a quarter-final match.

Nadal and Murray have it easy.  Neither will have to play a decent calibre player prior to their possible matchup.  Although with patriotism rife in ‘MairCa, Sam Querrey could find himself playing Murray in the 4th round with a vocal crowd behind him.

Djokovic has looked awful in both of his matches.  He’ll do well to stay in the tournament beyond the first weekend.  He’ll most likely have back to back matches against ‘MairCans, James Blake and Mardy Fish.

Murray is on court today in the middle of the afternoon, so we’ll be watching his body language as the heat is expected to be over 109 degrees fahrenheit where ever he is standing.
