Andy Murray wins in Melbourne

Great start from all 3 british competitors in the main draw.

Andy murray was up against a bit of an unknown quantity in Karol Beck, but in truth it was all too easy for the man from Dunblane.  The ease of the victory is sure to have sent ripples of tension flowing around the locker room.  Nadal and Federer will already be aware that this is Andy Murray’s Tournament to lose and with the comprehensive demolition of Karol Beck they’ll know that they might just be playing on borrowed time.

Fantastic results for Keothavong and Baltacha as well.  It was all very routine for Keothavong, but Baltacha had to dig deep for the win.

Round 2 is going to be a slightly tougher test in Justine Henin but on any given sunday (or wednesday in this case), any team (player in this case) can win.  So who knows, maybe there will be 3 Brits in the third round for the first time in… well, ages.

Watch this space tennis world.  Britain, it would appear has finally returned to the highest echelons of the tennis elite.

Game on!
